When you start anything–whether it's learning something new, creating a business, or getting in shape–the first step, first day, and first minute are exhilarating. You're excited and brimming with enthusiasm. "Yeah, I'm going to do this!" you tell yourself. But then, the next day comes, and it gets a little tougher. Another step, and then another, and suddenly you find yourself admitting, "This is pretty damn hard."
The initial excitement starts to fade, and you forget why you started. All you can think about is the next grueling step, the next dreaded workout, or the next day at work that you just can't stand anymore. The spark that initially drove you fades, and things become monotonous, difficult, and frustrating. You become angry and disheartened.
This emotional rollercoaster is normal. Anytime you set out on a new path, move out of your comfort zone, or start something new, you're going to go through a "bell curve" of frustration. Initially, you're pumped and full of momentum. This high energy might last two or three days, a week, or even three weeks. But what happens when that initial energy fades?
At this tipping point, most people quit. They let the process break them. But don't accept that. Embed that long-term goal into your brain and, every single day, do something about it, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. The way to massive progress is through learning the art of becoming single-minded.
Concentration, focus, and single-minded dedication are critical. When you learn how to block out distractions and keep your eye on the prize, you'll be surprised at what you can do.
Clarity is power. The more precise you are about what you want, the faster your brain can get you there. Think of your brain like a missile's servomechanism. It locks onto a target's heat signature and moves decisively toward it. Your brain works the same way when it knows the outcome you seek.
Get focused on the target. The target is not the activity; activities can change. What you need to zero in on are the results you’re after. If you consistently look at those outcomes, your brain will find ways to help you achieve them.
When you engage your resources–creativity, decisiveness, passion–you can unlock any other resource you need. If you don't have what you want, stop telling yourself that it's because you lack money, time, or opportunity.
Instead, burn your boats. If you want to take the island, eliminate retreat as an option. When people are faced with the binary choice of dying or succeeding, they tend to succeed.
You must be relentless. No matter what comes your way, always look for a way to overcome, break through, and win. Remember, wherever focus goes, energy flows. If you focus on obstacles, all you'll see are obstacles. Convert your thoughts into affirmations.
Many of us focus on our problems, enabling them to overwhelm us. This limited vision convinces us that we have no options. But there's always a way. If you're determined, creative, passionate, and committed, you will find the answers.
Implement an intentionally deliberate approach to your 24 hours. Be meticulous about your daily activities.
Go into the future and see where you want to be in 20, 30, or 40 years. Then come back to the present. Master today. Don’t worry about tomorrow or your past; the past doesn’t count anymore, and the future is too far ahead to be a concern.
If you can adopt this mindset, you'll be able to do, be, and achieve anything. Go fast, go hard, and focus on winning each day. This approach will lead you to master weeks, months, and eventually, years.
Master your days, and your future will take care of itself. Dedicate yourself to consistency, clarity, and relentless pursuit, and nothing will stand in your way.
Are you ready to master your future, one day at a time?
